The beauty of Shaker furniture and Shaker woodenware lies firmly in the deceptively simple and clean lines of every piece.  The Shakers used the then revolutionary idea of taking function to dictate form fully 100 years before Bauhaus thought of coining the phrase.  They then pared away all superfluous decoration and excessive timber, almost to the point of minimalism, giving their furniture a lightness of touch, which is particularly relevant to our own time.

Never content to rest on their laurels, the Shakers translated these functional designs into works of art by executing workmanship of exquisite quality and the inspired use of grain and figure found in the local timbers they used.  I strive to keep these ethics and principle alive in my own workshop, which I hope you will find inviting, interesting and a safe haven from the ever constant march of mediocrity
