Hand turning Shaker Pegs
These beautifully handcrafted oak peg rails are really solid, made from well-seasoned oak to give a lifetime of service. Each peg is individually hand turned and then threaded, so that it screws into the rail like some of the best originals. These rails are of the highest quality. All parts are separately hand finished, oiled and waxed to bring out the full natural beauty of the timber. Each rail has pre-drilled fixing holes and is supplied with all necessary screws and plugs. Also small turned oak caps, which fit over the screw heads, giving a really neat and professionally fitted appearance. Pegs are also available on their own, so that you can make up your own peg rails to any length. These have plain tenons and simply need a 1/2 hole drilled in your timber of choice. They are left bare and ready to receive your own finish. The peg at the top of the picture is hand turned from local oak and except for the threading of the tenon is exactly the same as the pegs used on my peg rails. The lower peg is machine turned from birch, which will stain and paint very well. It will also look good with a clear finish. Although not having the same fine detailing as my hand turned pegs, these pegs are exceptionally good value for money. Especially for large projects of where the cost of hand turned pegs can't be justified.
