Peg Rails. Hardwood DIY Kit

My unfinished Peg Rail Kits are Uniquely handmade from solid Beech. This strong tough hardwood has for centuries been associated with making furniture, especially chairs, where strength counts. Beech also paints and stains exceptionally well. The coat rails have a neat moulded edge and are supplied with attractive maple pegs. My coat rail kits come fully sanded and prepared, ready for you to paint or stain to the colour of your choice. They really are the perfect DIY peg rail for realising your own imaginative designs; you can now make convenient and attractive coat hooks exactly were you need them. A painted rail with contrasting stained pegs can make a really stunning feature.

The rails are 3 1/4'' ( 83 mm ) wide, with holes drilled 6'' ( 152 mm ) apart. The end pegs are set in 3'' from the rail ends so that the peg rails can be fitted in continuous runs and even butted at corners, Pegs are 3 1/2'' (90 mm ) long overall and protrude from the rail by 2 7/8'' ( 73 mm ) Kits are supplied with glue for attaching the pegs, all necessary fixings and wooden screw caps to hide the heads of the fixing screws.

TIP! When fixing continuous runs, consider fixing the rails first. Then filling the joints and painting. While the paint is drying you can stain / varnish or both, the pegs by simply dipping and wiping off the excess. Tape a thread to the tenon with masking tape, this will make dipping and hanging up to dry easier and keep the tenon free from finishes. Then glue and tap home the pegs. Easy! But do make sure you keep the parts to be glued clean while working.
